Weekend Update

This weekend was a pretty lazy weekend, getting close to payday so trying not to spend so much money.  Also I had to get rid of my old car 2001 Jetta WB 1.8T with 155,000 miles on it.  It was well on its last leg.  I decided on a Hyundai Elantra Blue (Manual Transmission).  Its a pretty nice car, not the same power as my old turbo, but hey it goes from 24 MPG to 34 MPG according to the sticker.  Even if it goes to 32 thats a big jump, and it also says that I can use regular instead of premium.  Two huge saving right there.

On a normal day I am driving about 80-100 miles so over the course of a week its 450 miles probally more.  I do know that I usually have to fill up my car almost 2x a week.

At premium 3.40 a gallon (California) (13gallon VW) =  44.20$ and that would get me about 325 miles.

At regular say 3.00 a gallon (14gallon Elantra) =  42.00 and that should get me about 476 miles @ 34 MPG.

Even with a car payment of 218$ I still believe that I will be saving money in the long run.  The VW was costing more in repairs on a monthly basis, and it was in need of a new windshield(200$), new gas pedal (200$), camshaft sensor (120$), new tires (300$), and that was just the known problems.

I am hoping that I can get the moldrite or come up with some other cool quick projects for next weekend for me and the girls.  Tomorrow my daughter starts kindergarten, so that is a huge milestone for her, and I am so proud of her.  I hope she has a great day, and cant wait to hear about it.
