Well I drilled the holes today, and tried plugging in it. Guess what it does not start, it was working before I decided to rip it to shreds to fit in the picture frame. I guess I am back at square one, I dont have a multimeter right now to try and test it but I can see that the AC adapter is getting power.
The fans dont turn on, no lights (if there are any left) power on. So anyone have any idea's? Its a Dell D600 laptop. No power, where do I test for power, ect.
Thanks

More on the Digital Picture Frame
So I finally got the board mounted inside the frame and realized that the power plug is going to be a challenge. I have go and drill a hole on one of the sides since I put the board in kind of backwards. The frame is the ones with one side held with a magnet so I might have to change that bit to work the way I want.
Its to late today to try and drill the holes for the power and Ethernet so I can start that out tomorrow and go from there. I really wanted to try and power it up tonight too. O well things can wait, I just hope it works after I ripped it to shreds. If not I think I might have one other useless laptop sitting around.
Next I have to bring it to a shop like Michaels and get the matte frame cut for the LCD screen and have that glued on. I would try and do it myself, but I dont think it will come out at all good. We will see I guess.
Once its all completed I will be happy and I can start my next side project which is I don't know right now.

Digital Picture Frame (Updated)
I had already installed the OS Ubuntu 10.4 on the broken Dell laptop and following the directions over at http://www.burgerfaire.com/ I had a pretty nice setup with Flickr. Yes I know I wanted Picasa but I didn't see any easy way to have it work. I know in the desktop version of Picasa there is the ability of slideshow, but I dont think it will be as easy as using FlickrFrame.
I think that I may have made some permissions issues so I will have to restart the project (not to worry). It running off of a 4G USB stick, and at most will probally take about an hour or so to get back to where I was.
One thing that I liked but wished I can pretty it up is pulling an RSS Feed for Weather/News. So far all I have seen is text super-imposed over an image which is great, but I would like a little more. I dont know enough about perl, xml or anything of that nature to even begin so that may come later.
I have to go purchase a frame also for this project soon, once I get it up and running how I want. Then I can dismantle the rest of the laptop and put it in the frame.

Digital Picture Frame
I have wanted to build a DPF for a long time now, and actually started about a year ago with an old dell laptop. Since then I had life take over and I had put that on the back burner for other projects or just day to day life. About 2 months ago I picked up the laptop and tried to start it up with no success.
I did not want to get rid of the laptop so I put it in storage till today, I happened to see it sitting by my desk so I decided to give it another try, and on first try it started up. So now to go download some software and start working on the project.
Requirements
Wireless
Slideshows
Video's
Music
*I would also love it to be able to pull the pictures off of say Picasa or another service (we currently use Picasa).
I am planning on using Ubuntu as that was what I was originally using.
Stay tuned for more updates on this project.
